how toni&guy ruined my hair

If you already don't know I wanted an "ombre/dip dye" hair for so long. I never had a chance to get it done. I had out growing highlights, that looked slightly like an ombre, but wasn't too strong. On Thursday, I payed a visit to Toni&Guy, the Enfield one. I had explained everything to the hair colourist. I told her how I want it to look, that I want it to be quite low, not higher than my ears. I wanted the colour to blend in with my natural hair colour. She seemed to understand everything, she even told me she won't touch the top of my hair, so everything will blend in well.

She got everything ready and got on with my hair. Then I been told that she won't apply the bleach on already highlighted hair as it could burn my hair. So I was fine with that, then she moved on the top of my hair and I started to worried, but it seems like she had applied everything only on the bottom and didn't touch the top. She left my hair with the bleach for around 50minutes, as my hair had been so strong and didn't pick out the colour. My hair got washed, and the Hair Colourist bought a palette of colours and asked me what type of blonde I wanted, I thought she wanted to dye my natural hair! Got so scared, but in the end she haven't done nothing about that. After I had a treatment applied to my hair, to make them very soft. Then the hair colourist told me, that I shouldn't straight my hair, just because the lines would be more obvious! She said that I should always keep it more messy, almost like "bed head".

After all the colour process, I wasn't able to really tell how everything looks, as my hair was wet. I got sat with the Hair Stylist, she was such a lovely lady and I love the hair cut she given me! She was so good at explaining and didn't cut of too much of my hair, I was so happy about that. She gave my hair such a nice shape and bounce. While she was drying my hair, I didn't really see a big difference in colour, on the ends. Once she done the front I saw yellow blonde! It looked so scary at first! While she was blow drying my hair, other hair stylist kept on staring at my hair, with very worried face expressions. No one showed me the top back of my hair, all I saw was only the ends! I paid £205 for such a shit service. I was pretty happy while going home, as I haven't paid much attention!

When I got home my mum saw my hair and she was so mad! I started to cry when I saw how yellow the front looked and that there haven't been a big change in the colour on the ends. The photos don't really catch the yellow, some how I even had ginger in my hair?! I then left to work and while being in the elevator, which is full of mirrors I saw the back of my HAIR! I just couldn't believe what I saw! How could she do that to my hair? Those lines. I got home and I been crying all night about my hair, I never had hair that looked so shit. At least my lovely friend had helped me get them fixed, I will take photos of my actual hair and do another post on it.

  1. I can't believe that would happen at a Toni & Guy salon, you would expect so much more! Will you go back to get it fixed? Also, I hope you don't think I'm being rude, but I can't read the font you use so I really struggle to read your posts! x

  2. Oh my gosh! I would have gone back to the salon and demanded a refund and that someone else fixed that dye job. That's horrible! x

  4. i really don't mean to be rude or make you feel worse but what the hell has she done to your hair?! i would go back and demand that they fix it for free because to pay £205 for that is atrocious. i had a similar experience at vidal sassoon once when they turned my roots bright orange & totally screwed up my scalp yet my normal hairdressers manage to make my hair platinum every time. i made them re-bleach it for free & they also paid for my t-shirt which they covered in bleach. i think anyone can see that what shes given you isn't ombre as theres all these blocks & lines. therefore you should definitely be compensated. at least your friend fixed it but i'd cry about all that money being wasted :( xx

  5. I'm honestly so so so shocked that they could not only be so incompetent, but then to let you pay for it?! I'm so angry on your behalf!! But so pleased your friend has managed to help you fix it. I would take these photos back to the salon and 100% demand a full refund and an apology. The fact they didn't even show you the back of your hair is disgraceful, they clearly knew what they'd done and wanted to hide it. They should offer you a free appointment at the VERY minimum, I cannot believe what disgusting service you've had. Go in and kick up a huge fuss until they give you what you want just to shut you up!!xxxx

  6. oh my gosh, i can't believe the mess she's made of your lovely hair!!! :O clearly she didn't have a clue what she was doing. 205£ is a hell of a lot of money, i really think you should go back with these pictures and demand a refund/explanation. the obviously knew they'd made a mistake when they didn't show the back of your hair, the amount of times i've been to the salon they show every inch of it with a mirror :/ look forward to seeing the pics of how your friend fixed it for you.x

  7. Please for your own 'sake' go back to the hairdresser and demand they fix it! they completely ruined your hair and it is not ombre at all, it's not even close! don't be scared to go back and ask them to fix it for you for free, you have all the right in the world to do that because this is shit service! If you are somehow 'scared' maybe to go back and ask them, take one of your parents because then they don't have any chance to turn you down. Your friend might fix it for you but you paid sooo much money just for that which is ridiculous! I would go back for sure!

  8. omg, you should call the manager and complain. Last summer i went to a salon called Naked to get some subtle sun kissed highlights and ended up with yellow and green stripes, it was terrible. I didn't realise until i got home either but i phoned to complain and got a full refund and they fixed it for free!

  12. Oh my god thats shocking! I cant believe they left it like that! You should definately go back and give them a piece of your mind, at least expect some money back!

  13. Oh my goodness what have they done?! You definitely need to get a refund, that's appalling. Considering people manage to ombre their heir at home you'd think a proper salon would do it spectacularly. Bet your hair looks lovely now that it's all fixed though.

  21. Oh my gosh, you should definitely go back and complain hun! The last time I visited the hairdressers they overdid my toner and turned it green and charged me £115. I thought it looked a bit odd but didn't say anything - when I got home my Mom also went mad and marched me straight back to the hairdressers to complain! I was disgusted, they knew they'd messed up my hair but never said anything. £205 is a ridiculous amount of money to pay when it's not at all what you asked for! x

  22. Wow, talk about an incompetent hair colorist! You said you had fixed it already, which I guess has not done anything good to your hair, damage-speaking, so maybe you could ask them for a deep repair treatment for free or something? I wouldn't want to go there another time though, aww!

  23. blimey! that is so awful :( feel for you Angelica, you MUST go and demand they fix it! xx

  24. Oh my goodness, poor you! Please go get a refund and a massive apology, they clearly had no idea what the hell they were doing. I just had my hair ombred and was charged £55 - £205 is mental! For your hair, definitely leave an intensive conditioner on overnight to try to repair it a bit. Have you gone back to your normal colour now or have you tried dip dye again? xx

  25. My Toni and Guy in Solihull are excellent. I absolutely adore my colourist as he always does such a wonderful job but this is APPAULING!! It looks bloody awful (as you already know). I hope you get a refund. I worried that as you have already fixed it yourself that they are going to make it difficult for you!!

  26. you should 10000% complain directly to them. If you have some before photos you should take them and also take a photo of the style you asked for so they can see how catastrophically WRONG they got it. I'm gutted for you that this happened - once I paid for mine to go from brown to blonde and it literally went orange, I could have been carrot top's double.

I really hope you get this sorted without having to part with another penny, don't let them get away without having to deal with the damage they've done.

    good luck! xo

  27. This is such a shame for you, I defiantly think you should demand a refund, even if you have had it fixed you should still show them these photos and get your money back! I had a similar experience a couple of years ago when I wanted ombre hair, my hair dresser made my whole hair bright orange! There was no colour graduation at all or any blonde in it! You would think ombre would be the easiest thing to do but no hairdresser seems to know how! xx

  28. So sorry this has happened to you hun :( I would seriously take the pictures to the salon, complain AND demand a full refund because that really isn't on at all. Don't let them get away with the damage and upset they have caused xx

  29. This is just awful and I really feel for you as I know what its like to come out of the hairdressers disappointed after spending a lot of money. For such a higher end salon you expect their stylist to be trained to a high level especially for the price that you paid. I hope for your sake that Toni and Guy recognise this and compensate you for it. I am just glad that you managed to get it fixed but that should not have happened in the first place.

  32. Angelika,

It was lovely to see you again last Saturday, and I'm just reading your blog post now.

I am terribly sorry to read about how upset you were with your experience at our salon. After all, we all go to the hairdresser to feel good about ourselves, and never expect to find ourselves in tears after it.

As we discussed during our consultation on Saturday, I hope I have given you the reasons behind the results of your hair.

Colour must be applied to the entire hair length, to create the perfect blending when you first have this technique done on old colour, however the colour applied to your roots can be as close to your natural colour as you require. This should have been strongly recommended to you in the consultation.

Here's a few examples of dip dye techniques on our other customers:

Look forward to seeing you soon to put this right for you.

    1. "This should have been strongly recommended to you in the consultation." - are you kidding??

There is no excuse for this, and you should have come up with one heck of an apology instead of trying to make it sound like its somewhat her fault.

Even if she was recommended having it done to the entire hair length, this isn't her fault (that is not true btw you should go take some lessons with Guy Tang) - the blame is entirely on your staff. Was he/she even educated? A hairdresser should have known better and refused if she knew it would turn out like this, and letting her leave the salon when more employees saw it and stared?? They were just hoping she wouldn't return?Atrocious.

Just admit you did a terrible job, that she isn't to blame and APOLOGISE.

This is not an "Ooops" type of thing, we all know mistakes happen - this is a hairdresser in dire need of education and practice. He/she performed a regular highlight job with BLUNT lines for crist sake. An uneducated person could have performed a better job.

I am sorry but too many hairdressers put the blame on the customer and its hardly ever the customers fault. You are the hairdressers, the advisers - if you aren't sure something will work out, refuse to do it.

  33. Wow how can someone call himself a "hairdresser" and do that to someone!
That must be so hard for you, I love my hair and had the cut ruined one day by some stupid hairdresser. You should go back there and set fire to his hair or discretly put a chewing gum in it. That would be quite a good revenge lol
